Why San Francisco is a great city to get sick in: Part 1

If you happen to come down with the sniffles, take a ride down to SF's Richmond district and heal thyself. Go to Kwok Hong Chinese Herbs on Balboa at 34th avenue. They sell a slew of Chinese herbs, and perform acupuncture. The acupuncturist is as nice a man as you will ever meet, and a trained doctor from China. It's not a fancy place, very functional, but for $35 for an acupuncture treatment, you can't go wrong. I left tonight feeling blissed out, having passed out on the table, in spite of the chatter from the front of the store.
I took a picture of him in the store, but he insisted that he was ugly, and had me snap a shot of his dapper graduation photo.

Why San Francisco is a great city to get sick in: Part 2

After acupuncture, treat yourself to a big hot bowl of Vietnam's tastiest comfort food. Americana Grill & Fountain (Italian and Vietnamese food) at 3532 Balboa Street and 35th Avenue has some of the tastiest, freshest pho around. I've only had the Vietnamese food, so don't hold me responsible if you hate the lasagana. Check out the selection of condiments: Hoisin to A1 and everything in between. Tell Helen I sent you!

Take in a sunset and lung-full of ocean air. I'm sick no more!

How Goth art thou?

I was an angst-ridden teenager armed with a Polaroid camera. I've got a bag of pictures that I need to scan... God, I love Polaroid, such immediate gratification! I also love my sister's Ray Bans: hot!

Children's Book Idea

My friend and I are thinking of collaborating on a children's book. I'm excited about the idea, because the lead character gets to kick monster ass. Here are some early rough sketches. I'm also wondering what medium to use for this project. I'm going to experiment with watercolor, gouache, colored pencils and pastels.

Christmas 2008

I finally got around to scanning the Christmas card I made for my family. We're all accounted for, including the dearly departed represented as photos on the mantle. Guess which one is me!

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse has a great, ionic look. I worked her real tattoos into this drawing, and added details, like a skull-motif scarf in her hair.

New series: Cleopatra

Part of a series I'm working on of misrepresented women.

New series: Marie Antoinette

Iron worker

This is a quick and dirty sketch from memory of my friend Greg. He's been an firefighter, paramedic, and is now an iron worker. When he's not saving lives or building bridges, he's enjoying a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon at the local watering hole.

Shoe fetish: perfectly natural, or slightly perverse?

I hate shopping, but I love beautiful things. I bought these exquisitely designed Fluevog shoes yesterday (with the help of my friends' birthday gift certificates, and a sale!).
Note: painted red toes in the background.

Biki

A portrait of my dear friend Biki B.

Be Whimsical

A card for my sister. I included a few of her favorite things, French bulldogs, a koi pond, and a scarf that makes her feel whimsical.

Tosha (the kinky communist)

This is a birthday card I made for my good friend Tosha. The first time I met him was at a goth club in 2002. Tall, thin and vampiresque, he's a great subject to draw!
